Star Wars: Princess Leia plot hole fixed? Does this explain THAT Return Of The Jedi gaffe?

There’s a moment in the movie when she’s talking to Luke about her memories of her mother.

But as the prequels confirmed, the twins’ mother, Padmé, died moments after giving birth.

Reddit user Pattycaaakes has suggested that Leia’s Force sensitivity – later explicitly explored in The Last Jedi – could cover the apparent plot hole.

“Leia’s memory of her mother are Force visions and not a real memory,” they said, “but she doesn’t know they’re force visions, Leia would have no idea what force visions are so she would just think [they’re] normal memories.

“She’s describing the memory of a Force vision to Luke when she says she remembers her mother.

“She describes the ‘memories’ as being ‘just images and feelings’, and that she was ‘beautiful, kind, and sad’.

“Leia’s ‘remembering’ Padmé from when she died giving birth and it was a Force vision, not a memory.”

It’s also been picked up-on in the past that Leia does not react to Luke making a point of asking her about her “real” mother, when we had not previously seen her acknowledge that she knew she was adopted.

One person responded: “For a long time I thought she was referring to Breha Organa [adoptive mother] but in fact she is not.

“Luke: Leia, do you remember your mother? Your real mother? Leia: Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.

“When Luke asks about her ‘real’ mother she doesn’t act surprised or shocked. This leads us to believe that Leia already knew she was adopted and perhaps already shared that with Luke in the past. Which is why Luke asks about her real mother.

“Also in current Star Wars canon it is confirmed that Leia knew she was adopted. Check out the book Bloodlines.”

More classic Star Wars moments are being rewatched by fans lately in the wake of the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, which tells of Han’s origin.

The film has struggled to meet expectations at the box office, and has had a lukewarm response from fans and critics.

Fisher’s Leia made her final saga appearance in Episode 8: The Last Jedi.
